What to wear guide | For clients + photographers

Ohhh, it's been too long since I last blogged!
I've been meaning to put a What to wear guide together for what seems like forever?! So, I've finally buckled down and put one together for ya'll! Hope you find this blog post helpful!
I find it incredibly important as a photographer to "educate" my clients on what looks good on camera and well, what just....doesn't. After all, this is my job. I've been behind the camera for so long that I seem to forget what it's like to be on the other side. And as someone who's about to get family photos taken in a few weeks and I want our outfits to totally rock-- I feel like this blog post is necessary!! :) With that being said-- here's what is going on in my head as I put together outfits for our families photos! (Which by the way are going to be taken by Ashlee Kay Photography! Ummm, what?! Super excited!)

What - to - wear Guide
The couples outfits follow a theme. His outfit is more neutral where as she wearing the POP of color. Their outfits aren't fighting with each other, they just flow! Not to mention the color palette is gorgeous.
Coordinate but don’t match. Matching is outdated-- these are not your mama's photos! Coordinate colors and looks, letting everyone have their own spin on the color palette. Coordinating color is what really brings wardrobe together. I usually choose two to three main colors of wardrobe, and maybe one accent pop of color. Also, Patterns are a-okay! They add personality and give your photos the extra spunk! Expression is important. We want your personality to shine through your wardrobe.
*I also always recommend versions of primary colors. Yellow (mustard), red (maroon, brick), blue (navy, royal).
Accessorize
Michelle picked a very simple dress but topped it off with a flower crown and gave the entire feel of the image a little spunk! Less is more sometimes.
Ladies-- jewelry really makes outfits pop! (In a good way) They add to your outfit and look great on camera! A simple black dress tied a chunky colored necklace makes your black dress more trendy/edgy! but all around still timeless.
Layer, layer layer! Layers add dimension and depth. In the summer? Layer your dress with a cute belt and pendant necklace. In the fall and winter? cardigans, belts, statement necklaces, scarves, hats, blazers, etc. Accessorizes REALLY add to a photo-- it adds personality and really makes a photo pop!
Shoes matter!
These gorgeous sisters personalities all shine through their shoe choices! Suuuuper cute!
Make sure to put the finishing touches on your outfit by choosing a pair of shoes that go with the "theme" of your outfits. Your shoes will make an appearance in the session :)
Be comfortable! Wear an outfit that makes you feel good. If you aren’t comfortable in what you’ve chosen for pictures, it will show. If you can’t find a dress you feel good in, but you rock a good pair of skinny jeans, do that. If you can barely walk in heels, there’s no harm in doing cute and comfy flat boots or pretty sandals.
Smile and be in the moment.
I know it can be awkward getting your pictures taken but I assure you no one is judging you! We want to catch raw true emotion and by simply being in the moment with your partner, children, or even siblings will make a world of a difference in your photos.
